Completion

Assuming that the solicitors have completed their work, it will soon be time to name a completion date.

With the date in place, contracts are exchanged. Once you’ve signed those documents, and the documents are in the hands of the other solicitors, at that point you have effectively entered into a legally binding agreement.

When completion day comes, funds are then usually transferred from their solicitor to yours (less any deposit), and the property is then yours.

Do ensure you have made plans to hand over those keys - particularly as completion day can often drag on late into the afternoon.

The process is complete: you have sold your property privately - congratulations!
